Cathy Groehnert is a Consumer Safety Officer with the US Food and Drug Administration. Ms. Groehnert works in FDA Imports Headquarters on the FSMA team focusing on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). In this role, she provides authoritative guidance and training to FDA personnel regarding FSVP inspection methods and procedures; she also provides interpretations of applicable laws, regulations, and programs, and advises management on a wide range of regulatory issues.
Ms. Groehnert began her career with FDA in 2002 as an Investigator in the Division of West Coast Imports. While working in the field, she performed a wide variety of import investigations and examinations, conducted joint operational work with other government agencies, provided new investigator training and was one of the first Investigators to conduct FSVP inspections.
Before joining FDA, Ms. Groehnert worked as an Environmental Health Specialist with the Los Angeles County Department of Health inspecting restaurants and as a Food Safety Officer with the Washington State Department of Agriculture inspecting food manufacturers and dairy plants.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Rutgers University in NJ and is passionate about protecting public health.
