Eva Merced began her career with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2009. She is based in the San Juan District office and currently serves as Food Specialist within FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs, Human and Animal Food Operations Division 4 East, covering FL, PR, and USVI. In this capacity, she leads and executes difficult and complex inspections, investigations and special assignments of regulated domestic and international food facilities to determine compliance with FDA laws and regulations. She routinely makes recommendations to management officials, as to whether or not a firm/individual involved in food products is in compliance with the regulations, which serve as basis for the determination of regulatory actions. Ms. Merced has also attained the highest level of certification in the food program, Seafood Investigator Level II Certification.
Prior to FDA, Ms. Merced worked for the pharmaceutical, medical devices, chemical and food industry for over 13 years and held different positions in the areas of microbiology, quality assurance/quality control, documentation, new product development, and cleaning validation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with a major in Microbiology from the Interamerican University in Puerto Rico.
